World of Warcraft gets expanded
But no details yet...
Although Blizzard's MMORPG opus World of Warcraft is now officially the world's second most popular MMOG (behind only Korea's Lineage series), the rejuvenated developer aren't resting on their laurels, with a full expansion pack for WoW already said to be underway at the firm. Of course, it was somewhat inevitable that an expansion would be created, though Blizzard are keeping the specifics under-wraps for now. "Some have asked about an expansion and what it might hold," lead producer Shane Dabiri tells the official game website. "I wanted to let players know that it is in the works, and we'll release details as soon as we can."
Blizzard's Paul Sams had commented in an interview earlier this month that an expansion pack of the paid-for variety was inevitable, though it wasn't explained at the time that Blizzard had already begun work on the new title. We're guessing we'll learn more as the festive season approaches, but Blizzard's success with their genre-debut demonstrates amply the rich rewards to be earned in online games which capture the public's imagination. Of course, the associated costs also make it a risky genre to enter... one of the reasons Monolith recently sold the Matrix Online and a DC Comics based MMOG to Sony Online. More on all such tittle-tattle soon.
