HMV appear to be forging ahead into the digital downloads future, having earmarked £10 million in investment for a new downloads platform being created in tandem with Microsoft. Windows Media Audio files will be the first available from the new service, which launches on September 5th, but Digital eventually plans to offer and game downloads as popularity increases.

A new Jukebox system, where Microsoft's involvement is key, will be the service's main selling-point, and said software will be available on CD-ROM from over two-hundred HMV outlets across the UK. You'll also be able to download the software from the official website. It'll be interesting to see what publisher support HMV will garner as they look to offer games, many of the biggest firms having thus far shied-away from offering their wares online, amid security and fears. More soon.
