Whilst have repeatedly stated that success in is one of their most important goals for the forthcoming console, rumours now circulating suggest that the console could actually be delayed in this key region - missing the predicted worldwide launch in November. March 2006 was the new schedule being mooted by online site Game Informer, a date which could put the new on collision course with the - due out in the 'spring' of next year. One has suggested that Microsoft could be delaying the system in order that several of the games with 'Japanese appeal' might be ready to support the console's debut - others have hinted at manufacturing problems.

This news reportedly comes from a Redmond insider who let the slip, however in uncharacteristic fashion, Microsoft have commented on this speculation - stating that the Xbox 360 "remains on track for each territory," referring to the 2005 launch period revealed at E3 in May. This could all be cods-wallop, then, but Microsoft's task is not an undaunting one: analysts are already stating that the Xbox 360 could be the biggest and most ambitious consumer launch ever - eclipsing Windows 95 in scale and significance.
