The GB Micro is heading for launch in several regions even as we speak, and with units for the smallest ever handheld now heading to stores and critics, the first chatter about the new gadget has begun seeping onto the web. The news isn't entirely rosy for Nintendo, with critics seemingly divided about the role the GB Micro serves post and PSP. Indeed, whilst some find the system the most desirable and appealing piece of technology due out this Christmas, others accuse the Big N of rehashing the same formula in desperation to combat the ascending PSP. That said, as a lifestyle accessory, the new Micro can certainly give the a run for its money, despite some noting the lack of innovative features. Indeed, at 99 USD this is expensive for aging technology.

The critical division appears to matter very little now however, with the GB Micro fast approaching launch, which has been revealed as September 13th for Japan, and September 19th for North America. Will the GB Micro prove to be more than just a gimmick aimed at those trend-conscious gamers who re-purchased a GBA as a GBA SP? Only time will tell, but it will certainly be interesting to follow the success of this machine, which many are calling a stop-gab until the GBA 2 arrives. More on all this as we get it, including a launch date for PAL regions.
