Never let it be said that despite Rockstar's controversy-courting antics that the publisher lacks style, or an eye for innovation. Having noted the increasing rate that UMD films and shows are flying off shelves globally, and into gamers' PSPs, the firm now plans to release their own live UMD; a documentary which will take its inspiration from the company's videogames. Sunday Driver will be out exclusively on the burgeoning format later this year, and promises to take a candid look at the lives of America's low-riders.

The film will be – by expert reckoning – director Carol Strong's debut project, and will deliver an inside look at life within the Compton/Watts "chapter" of California's low rider car club. Dubbed The Majestics, life is certainly unusual for this band of autophiles, and the documentary will examine the challenges facing the chapter and their struggles with California's law enforcement authorities.

"Our goal was to create a film with the same cutting edge, uncompromising cinematic content that we strive for in our games. We are extremely proud of Sunday Driver as an evolution of the brand into film," gushed Sam Houser, President of Rockstar Games.

If Sunday Driver proves a success then know doubt other publishers will be following Rockstar's lead in this daring swap of medium. More as we get it.
