Sony have revealed their first demo 'pod' this week in Japan, unveiling the world's first "PlayStation Spot" in their swish Tokyo-Ginza located showroom. The pod can be found on the sixth-floor, Tokyoites. As Sony's premier demonstration store from which pretty much anything can be purchased, this site makes an ideal location from which to unveil the first demo pod – which allows PSP gamers to connect wirelessly to the station and download game demos for sampling.

The downloaded content apparently can't be saved to memory stick for playing later, sadly, however various games are available from now, including Byte Hell 2000, Loco Roco, MegaMan, Ape Academy 2 and Portable Resort. In theory, the pods support unlimited numbers of downloads, though presumably the actual simultaneous figure is limited by the capabilities of the wireless access point.

The pod is just the beginning of Sony's ambitious plans for making use of the handheld's advanced features in Japan, and we're holding out for a release elsewhere too. "We have lots of new and exciting content for the PlayStation Portable in the upcoming future and will continue to look at new ways of extending sampling and gamesharing opportunities for games, movies and for the handheld. It's having great success in so we will keep you up to date for Europe," a representative of commented. More on this soon.
