747s needed for Xbox 360 launch
Moore reveals launch concerns...
In a new chin-wag with the BBC Online's Technology section, Microsoft bigwig Peter Moore discusses his hopes and fears ahead of the Xbox 360 launch worldwide. The new console is due out in America on November 22nd, in Europe on December 2nd and Japan on December 10th leaving little margin for error in what is being dubbed the largest consumer product launch ever. "There's a reason no-one has done this before and we are figuring that out," Moore admitted candidly. "If we knew what we were getting into, we might not have done it." Brave words indeed, especially coming after the X05 showcase which saw Microsoft presenting an overtly optimistic outlook.

It seems that a spot of 'tempering' is the order of the day, Moore affirming "We're going to ship all around the world; how we're going to do that, I don't know," adding "We're going to rent every 747 we can find." What Moore is bracing the world for, it would seem, is a lack of stock, the MS vice president of worldwide marketing and publishing conceding that supplies may run-dry as the firm scurries to meet demand in every corner of the globe. 2,500 Microsoft staffers are apparently working to co-ordinate the launch even now, and the hope in Redmond is that they can pull it off with only minor problems.
Fellow Microsoft big cheese J Allard affirmed his believe in the worldwide debut last week, but also said issues were expected, especially on the supply front. We'll keep you posted.
