Magazine reveals top-twenty publishers
EA top charts (again)
The latest issue of industry magazine Game Developer reveals the top-twenty publishers based on various criteria such as review scores and sales, website Gamasutra.com informs us today. EA unsurprisingly top the magazine's run-down, with Activision climbing to beat Microsoft to the number two spot. The Xbox maker comes in third this year. Nintendo meanwhile come in fourth with Sony fifth, though the article notes that these major labels are doing more recently to challenge EA's dominance - according to Gamasutra, the online sister-publication of Game Developer magazine.
Profits are of course at the heart of the magazine's estimates, hence EA's dominance for a third-year running, but quality of pay, regularity of releases and more also helped calculate the standings. Acclaim dropped out of the top-twenty owing to their bankruptcy, Bandai, LucasArts and Capcom all found new homes on the list. Atari meanwhile slipped to thirteenth. For the full list, and the expert analysis on it, seek out the magazine which is on sale now.
"This year's research reflects the continuing consolidation of third-party publishers, as well as strong software line-ups by the major hardware manufacturers," GD editor Simon Carless commented. More from us soon.
