Whilst reports of retailers selling out within hours of opening flood out of North America following the launch of the console, Bill Gates has been speaking to Reuters on Microsoft's next-generation machine. With the console out (or sold out, as the case may be) on shelves across the US, and retailers delivering their shipments to customers who pre-ordered the system, Gates told the news agency that the 360 is not Microsoft's final fling at gaming domination. "We'll play again. We learned a lot in the first round," the boss enthused. "We've got a chance not just to have higher market share, but also to grow the size of this market substantially."

Gates added that he believes the Xbox 360 does a better job of balancing the technology within than Sony's forthcoming console, the boss conceding that it might take a year for people to realise this, as games for the system evolve and developers become accustomed to the nuances of the hardware. When questioned on the Xbox 360's 'killer app', the Xbox's Halo, Gates' wouldn't be drawn on which title he believes will do the business with the second iteration of the hardware. "I wouldn't have picked right last time if you had asked me that question, so I won't pick this time," he confessed.

With the 360 selling out rapidly across North America, eBay prices have reached as high as 3000 USD. Over 4,500 stores also opened at midnight to celebrate this vast debut, whilst gamers partied into the night at Microsoft's Zero Hour launch event in the Mojave desert. will be getting the 360 come December 2nd, on December 10th. More soon.
