New Free Radical game from Ubisoft
Moral dilemna looms
UK developer Free Radical, the studio behind the TimeSplitters series and most recently the psychic-shooter Second Sight from Codemasters, have today announced a brand new publishing deal with French publishing house Ubisoft, covering a brand-spanking new game. An original 'IP' of the Second Sight order is promised by Free Radical, for the PC and 'next-generation' consoles, and it will be published between mid-2006 and early 2007. Neither the name nor the premise of Free Radical's new opus was revealed in the publisher's press release, however Ubisoft are promising a 'mature-themed' action game which will present the player with moral choices. "It will feature difficult strategic choices and moral dilemmas, tapping into both their rational and emotional instincts," reads Ubisoft's press release.
"With this game, we plan to take players to a new level of intensity and create an environment at once terrifying, enthralling and impossible to resist," commented Ubisoft director Virginie Gretz, Free Radical MD Steve Ellis adding that they are "delighted to benefit from Ubisoft's collaboration on this title and benefit from its strong experience developing and marketing powerful, innovative action titles."
Apparently, the TimeSplitters series has now shifted an impressive 3.5 million copies worldwide, having recently become part of EA's portfolio. Free Radical's development staff includes several former Rare game makers, who worked on the landmark GoldenEye for the N64. More on this as we get it.
