Third Tomb Raider for silver screen?
Online chatter abound...
The beauteous and ever-adventurous Lara Croft (AKA Tomb Raider, AKA Angelina Jolie) could be making a return to the silver screen in the not too distant future, if a third film is officially revealed. Whilst both cinematic renditions of the popular Eidos game failed to excite the critics, box office takings were very healthy, and certainly justify another sequel, according to producer Lloyd Levin when pressed in the official Playstation magazine. That said, nothing is official at present, despite actor Chris Barrie telling The Sun that a new flick is 'on the slate'. The Business Online quotes Hollywood insider sources that suggest negotiations are progressing between studio Paramount and game publisher SCI (new owners of Eidos). Eidos previously received a one-off cash payment for the licence as well as a cut of merchandising and box office takings.
Further to this news, we also learn that actress and all-round fitty Angelina Jolie is also interested in reprising her role as Lara. Online reports, courtesy of Eurogamer.net, even speak of Brad Pitt taking a minor role in the third film, though this is probably twaddle. The first film hit cinemas in 1998, but Eidos would not be drawn on this latest gossip, declining to comment on 'rumour'. More as we get it, then.
