Despite the last update to Revolution's long-running adventure series proving something of a let-down critically and commercially, the Broken Sword series will return, with a brand new instalment already well underway. Publisher have revealed that number four in the series, in its 90s heyday an exemplar of point-and-click excellence (before the genre's untimely and underserved demise), will be released for the in summer 2006. Broken Sword: The Angel of Death will be the name of the new outing. Series star George Stobbart will once again return in this latest title, in which his wits, charm and luck will once again be pitted against powerful sinister forces on a globe-trotting adventure involving a mysterious artefact and all manner of sinister plottings.

The game will begin a spot more romance for poor George, who becomes infatuated with a mysterious woman only for Miss Right to disappear on him, kick-starting the whole adventure. We're told the game will include a "a painful and bitter conclusion," though the participation of England's team has yet to be confirmed. Indeed, quite why THQ are giving away details like that is a mystery. We like surprises! Anyway, next summer it is, and hopefully this will mark a return to strength for the series, which seemed to suffer upon entering the third-dimension with The Sleeping Dragon. More as we get it.
