Sony snap-up Killzone team
Halo 'killer' taken in-house
Guerrilla Games, the Dutch developer behind the PS2 exclusive FPS Killzone, have been acquired this week in a deal with Sony Computer Entertainment Europe. Guerrilla are currently hard at work on Killzone 2, and already had strong ties with Sony forged over recent projects. Two-million copies of Killzone have so far been sold world-wide... not quite a Halo killer, then, but most impressive nonetheless.
Killzone 2 is being created for the PS3, whilst a PSP version of the original is also en route. "Guerrilla have a great combination of creative, technical and production talent in their team and we have enjoyed a close working relationship with their management and staff for a number of years," beamed Sony boss Phil Harrison on the purchase. "As we prepare for the launch of PlayStation 3 next year, this acquisition strengthens our development portfolio to take full advantage of the exciting entertainment opportunities provided by PSP, PlayStation 3 and beyond."
For his part, Guerrilla boss Hermen Hulst added that the new deal afforded his team a better chance of taking over the world. Sort of.
