An MMORPG developed by Red Bedlam is to hold the first crucifixion Britain has witnessed in two millennia this week, when player Cynewulf is nailed to the cross for a total of seven days, punishment for a 'ganking' offence. The game, currently in testing stages, will use the ancient mode of capital punishment to punish gamers breaking in-world laws. The length of time the player will hang on the cross for will reflect the severity of their crime, as in Roman history, and will act as a 'ban' of sorts.

The game in question is Roma Victor, a persistent world recreation of Roman Britannia, circa 180CE. The game, which will officially launch on July 1st this year, promises a historically accurate world, complete with the same conditions, laws and events which demarked the Roman occupation of what is now parts of the UK. Players will act as citizens and slaves, and will be punished for in-game offences, such as 'ganking' (gang-killing a newly arrived player) with accurate punishments such as crucifixion.

Cynewulf, really an electrical engineer from Michigan, has the dubious pleasure of being the first player crucified in Roma victor, but is unlikely to be the last if the game takes-off as Red Bedlam hope. "Roma Victor has been designed from the outset to offer an historically authentic and realistic virtual world. Although crucifixion is nowadays synonymous with persecution and religious symbolism, in 180CE it was just one of many severe punishments used by the Romans to punish criminals and to send a clear message out to other potential wrong-doers. And since our online world is historically authentic, we feel that applying this punishment to cheats, hackers and other virtual wrongdoers is not only appropriate, but also adds to the gaming experience by resonating with classical history," commented CEO Kerry Fraser-Robinson.

More on this as we get it.

and what exactly does it have to do with God? crucifiction was capital punishment in Roman world. Christ was not the only one crucified! Have you ever read any history?! Did you think movie Spartacus mocked God, because they showed crucufied Spartacus? (who died in battle and WAS NOT crucified).
