Diddy Kong Racing was confirmed by for the this week, the first new game developed with Nintendo since acquired the studio over three years ago. Nintendo was a former Rare shareholder, and many predicted the companies would never work together in the wake of the Microsoft take-over... however this fear appears to have been unfounded, with this collaboration harking back to Rare's glory days.

Based on the N64 classic, Diddy Kong Racing DS will feature spruced-up tracks and vehicles, as well as a revamped control system which will take advantage of the innovative eccentricities of the DS handheld. Rare also tell us that we'll be able to design our own courses, and then race around them (well, obviously - Ed).

As well as an array of new vehicles, characters and other such joy, an eight player mode via the Nintendo WiFi Connection should prove particularly tempting, especially as it will apply to both multi-card and single-card play. No dating has been mentioned by any of the parties involved, so watch this space on that front. No this space... no, left a bit...
