Darwinia bound for consoles?
Introversion's strategy game targetted by Sony, MS
The fame of UK developer Introversion and their imaginative strategy game Darwinia is definitely on the rise, the game having already won over numerous critics, picking up a raft of rewards and a fervent cult following online. In turn, this has caught the eye of the console big boys, Sony and Microsoft, who are duly courting the developer at present.
"I'm afraid I can't really give you any concrete details at the moment - suffice it is to say that we are currently discussing a number of deal negotiations with Sony and Microsoft," Vicky Arundel of Introversion commented recently, having been questioned on the prospect of an Xbox Live Arcade version of the popular title. The game weighs in at 30MB on the PC, making it ideal Arcade fodder.
Darwinia is currently delivered to PC gamers via Valve's online delivery system Steam, suggesting that a cross-over to the Xbox Arcade (or similar service on Sony's PS3) wouldn't be too much of a leap of faith. That said, platform holders do sometimes drive a hard bargain, and it is suspected that negotiations are ongoing at present. Introversion's new game - 'Defcon' - is currently in development, scheduled for release at the end of the summer.
