Ultima Online axes naughty hoarders
180 accounts closed....
Publisher EA have axed the accounts of some 180 participants in the persistent world of Ultima Online, and have in the process sliced some 15 trillion gold pieces from the world of the game. The accounts in question were linked to users found abusing the game's rules related to the storage of gold in Ultima's cheque system.

The vast quantities of gold, generated by unsporting in-game activities, do of course unbalance the economies of the title, as well as upsetting genuine players. The 180-plus users in question were therefore ejected for breaching the rules of the game. Genuine gamers also holding sums of gold in cheque form need not be too worried by this action, EA promising the cash should be where it was left, or possibly requiring a mod's help to turn into cash.
Other MMO providers, most notably Blizzard, have been cracking-down lately on the activities of gold farmers and other parties found abusing the rules of the game world and upsetting the balance of play. We'll keep you posted on this.
