EA reckon that the number-two spot in the upcoming next-generation console war could be number-one overall, corporate communications VP Jeff Brown telling site Eurogamer.net that the console could emerge from the fray on-top. He told the site that "everybody's saying that the Wii is so unique that it's going to be the second system people buy, meaning if you own a 360 or a PS3, you'll probably also buy a Nintendo Wii."

"The funny thing is, some people say that discursively, like it's some sort of dig at Nintendo - and what they don't get is that if you're second on everybody's system, you're first overall." So there you have it... from EA, too.

Brown also admitted that interest in Wii was much higher among developers, and that the console would be far better supported than the Cube was. Six titles have been officially confirmed to-date. "There are a lot of people at EA who are walking around whispering: '40 / 40 / 20 per cent'," he revealed.

"I don't want to be indiscreet, but the truth is EA is most committed to the platform with the biggest installed base. We've always been very practical and open about the fact that this is a business; if you do well in business, you get to keep making more games, and you can hire more people to make more different kinds of games - as long as you remember that this is a business first," Brown commented when questioned on EA's loyalty to the three emerging formats.

The publishing bigwig finally poured scorn upon those questioning the future of the Playstation 3, highlighting in a round about way the power of the brand, despite the high price. All in all, it seems EA are very open to initially supporting all the new formats with a strong line-up, which might be honed to reflect the successes of the systems post launch. Which makes sense, really.
