Did you enjoy dispatching the various nasties in Area 51? If you did, it seems likely you'll be pleased with the latest word out of the US, which suggests that a full sequel to the arcade-themed is on the way, titled Area 52 at present. Whilst publisher aren't saying anything at present, the latest job ads on GameDev.net do little to hide the nature of the team's next project.

'Area 52' is noted as a project title on the job listings in question, which also mention that the team requires people with experience crafting for the and the Playstation 3. So a next-generation title it is, by the sound of things, with Unreal Engine knowledge listed as a nice extra, not to mention experience working with first-person shooters. Not the toughest news to uncover, especially as Midway confirmed their licensing of the engine some time ago.

In addition to 'Area 52', the job listings also hint at a second project called Criminal, once again bound for next-generation of consoles by the sound of things. Once again, the latest Unreal Engine is involved in this project, though as before nothing official is forthcoming from the publisher. Meanwhile, work continues apace on John Woo's Stranglehold as - by the look of things - Midway ramp-up next-generation development.
