During his speech opening the Game Show last week, chief Ken Kutaragi was quoted saying that classic Mega Drive and TurboGrafx titles would be playable via download on the PlayStation 3, something that is very much not a done deal, according to Sega. "Distribution of Mega Drive content through e-Distribution is something that cannot be formally announced by our company. We're now at the step of looking into it," read an official statement from the company.

It sounds like nothing is final yet, then, though titles have already been mooted for 'e-distribution' on the console (through that system's virtual console service), so it could be a case of tying up formalities with Sony. That said, it could also be that existing relationships for the Wii, and the Live (covering Sonic) could be a stumbling-block to getting Sega games on the PS3. Kutaragi might indeed have been merely trying to highlight the potential of the service, which is also set to deliver classic and titles.

Reports online suggest that the translation of Kutaragi's speech into english was somewhat off-key, critics noting that news of the PS2 20 GB edition's price cut was also omitted, during the actual talk. More on this as we get it, then.

I think Sony should keep away from classic Sega and Turbo GrafX games and try to make a download service for there own games. I mean it would be pointless keep covering old ground, Microsoft was pushing there luck when they released a back catalogue of Sega games when Nintendo had already struck a deal about it.
