Kingdom Hearts tops 10m
Number 3 on the way?
Square Enix's critically-acclaimed and downright odd RPG series Kingdom Hearts has now sold more than ten-million copies worldwide, we learn from the Japanese publisher today. Three games comprise the series to-date, the original PS2 Kingdom Hearts, Chain of Memories for the GBA, and Kingdom Hearts II, released last year also on the PS2.
The award-winning RPG series blends Square's RPG experience, and a number of their most beloved game characters, with a roster of Disney's own cartoon heroes, in a plot worthy of anything Final Fantasy can muster. The series has sold some five and a half million copies in the USA, followed by over three million in Japan and more than two million in Europe.
"When we first started developing Kingdom Hearts, we never imagined we would pass the 10 million mark so quickly," producer Shinji Hashimoto beamed. "We are delighted and extremely grateful for the support from our fans around the globe. We hope to continue to provide games which fulfill your anticipation in the future."
More is expected from the series in the future, though not quite as soon as Disney might hope, with the developer engrossed in other projects.
