The original Commandos game was a surprise hit when released in 1998/99, entertaining mass-sales thanks to its original, intense and tricky gameplay, coupled with some rather pretty graphics. Pyro Studios and publishers Eidos recognized the potential in the game's setting, and rapidly went back to work in developing a sequel to nourish the publics hunger for this new take on real-time strategy gaming. Pyro Studios were relatively unknown before Commandos was released and despite a pretty good reception from the critics and moderate press attention, no one expected the game to set the charts alight. But it did, levering Eidos' share price to levels since unmatched and placing Spanish developers Pyro in an enviable position within the industry overnight. With Commandos 2 Pyro seem to have cemented this reputation with a rock solid game that once again is selling by the bucket load on both sides of the Atlantic. The public clearly lapping-up a game with surprisingly few peers.

So what's it all about then? Well, Commandos 2 sees you as the player in command of an elite force of, you've guessed it, Commandos! This crack team is charged with completing the most impossible and dangerous missions in World War 2. But this is not a standard RTS game (real-time strategy), as a gun-hoe approach will result in instant failure; instead the player must control each Commando individually to ensure that the very precise and intricate requirements and necessities of the mission are completed successfully. The result is an often slow-paced, but deeply immersive and intriguing game of subtlety and tension. The disarming of mines, rescuing of hostages and killing of guards having to be completed without attracting too much attention. True Commando-style.
